Hello guys,

I'm kind of new on this forum, so good to be here :)

So, we have a 3 months male puppy named Rocky.
When we got him, at 2 months, we started giving him Purina Pro Plan optistart, because many breeders in Romania started to do so.
He is fine with it, never had problems and eats every meal properly.

Now, we started to talk to other people and have done some research on the internet, and there appears to be better food on the market.
Altough it is said that if the dog is ok with the food, then you shouldn't change it, we are looking for best alternatives.

We heard that Acana is the best one, 70% protein, but we were advised against it, because you have to be very precise with the quantities, given the high amount of protein contained. And also we heard it's more of a cold season food.
Eventually, we bought Brit Care Super Premium (with lamb and rice), because we got good reviews, given the hypoallergenic properties.

We are curious what is your opinion on the matter and also what food do you feed your puppies?

Best regards,
Andrei

Welcome to you and Rocky!! We'd love to see some pictures.

I am definitely of the opinion that you should feed what works. However, I still think the food should be a good quality and Purina is not. So good for you for doing your research! Acana is a high quality kibble as is Orijen, Fromm, Zignature. Another option would be a freeze dried/dehydrated raw like The Honest Kitchen, Grandma Lucy's or Sojo's. Dogfoodadvisor.com is a good website for information and ratings on all of the dog foods. My Frenchie who is 4 years old gets raw and my English Bulldog puppy is getting Fromm right now but I will eventually switch him over to raw.

I think we will finally choose between Acana and Orijen. The other ones that you mentioned are not available in the pet shops here.
About the freeze/dehydrated raw food, i will definitely look into it, it sounds good though.
Do you also feed vegetables separately?

Here is our boy :) IMG_1638.webpIMG_1791.webp

You can give veggies separately. I don't use veggies or fruits as part of their meals but just as a little treat here and there whenever I am chopping/cooking something that they can have.

He is a cutie!

Whichever one you use, make sure it is rates suitable for All Life Stages if it's not a puppy formula.

Yes, for now we are looking for puppy food.
At 6 months, when we will switch from 3 to 2 meals/day, is he considered old enough for adult food, or should we buy junior food?

And is 100-120 g of dry dog food (split intro 3 meals) an optimum daily quantity for him now? What about at 6 months+?

I'm not sure about quantities, but I do know you never HAVE to feed puppy food, as long as the food you use is rated for all life stages. The puppy will get more frequent and larger amounts so will get the extra calories that way.
