Hello, I am new to this forum and also a first time frenchie owner. I recently picked up my new puppy Louie and he is about 5 months old. He was the last puppy left in his litter. He is a pure breed and is akc registered. In his puppy pics when he was about 12 weeks his ears were fully up and even almost curled backwards at the top. When i picked him up his ears were flopped over around halfway up. His adult teeth are poking through and read this to be a common cause for it. The vet and breeder said they should go back up. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this in an older puppy or could shine some light on the topic. Thanks

We did not personally have this issue, but I have heard from others that it can sometimes be related to teething and that yes, they will go back up. Would love to see a picture of Louie:)

I have one in my profile picture not sure why it isn't working. Here are some more.

You can see his ears were up at 12 weeks and are folded at around 5 months still

Thanks for sharing the pictures. He is really cute. My guess would be that his ears will most likely go back up after he is done teething since they were up when he was younger.

Thanks for the response! Yours are cute too. I added Jake on igram.

Glad everyone is saying they'll go back up, I've read mixed things online. He's cute either way but just anxiously waiting for those ears to stick back up.

I would call or email the breeder and ask what they think

None of my pups have ever done this, but I have heard of others doing it some times when they are teething. They should go up after that.

I did speak with the breeder and she seemed very confident that they would go back up.

"As it turns out pups with natural, uncropped ears commonly display this change while teething! Next time you're chewing something, pay attention to what you feel near your temples. The pulsating that happens as you bite down happens in a pup, too. This means the muscles in that area are constantly working, and the strain can cause ear muscles to weaken and lose their shape as a dog teethes. After he's done, they should stand back up as an adult (if they were standing in the first place) but that's the reason for a stop and drop. "
