Hey everyone,

Just wanted to post this incase it happens to anyone else. We've had our little girl for about a month now and have been struggling with loose stool since she came home. The vet wasn't overly concerned because she was gaining weight and her stool samples came back negative. We were feeding her acana puppy and jr chicken. While reading other posts we tried reducing her intake to see if that would help. We even tried probiotics and pumpkin, her stool never hardened. On Thursday we went to the pet store and the girl working explained how acana is a very rich puppy food which can be too much for some dogs. We switched to N&D pumpkin lamb and blueberry by Farmina and within 12 hours her poop is where it should be. A huge stress has been removed as we didn't know what was wrong.

Moral of the story: just cause a brand is considered high quality doesn't mean it's right for your lil puppy

Good post. And you're absolutely right, not every food agrees with every dog. You have to find something that works and sometimes that can take trying a few different brands. Sometimes all it takes is switching proteins within a brand.

You're baby is adorable!

Absolutely correct!

Hey -- keep us posted on the Farmina N&D... I was at my pet store yesterday and they have started carrying this brand -- I had never heard of it and seems like a great food.
I did get a trial bag, but my two will eat anything that goes in their mouth so, not a good gage :)

Your pup is so cute!

Both my dogs are allergic to chicken so it's not always the brand of food.

I had similar experience with Maddy and Orijen kibbles back when she was a little pup. But I tried Orijen again when she got older (around 10 month old), and no loose stool. So I've been sticking with Orijen's different flavors since then. So your pup may be ok with Acana when she gets older.

Hi there,
One bag done and she's loving it. Her poop is great, she's happy and polishes off her bowl every meal. She's gaining weight right on schedule. It's a little more expensive than other brands but at full grown they only recommend 1 1/4 cup, so it does last a little longer.

Hope that helps!
