Dante is now 10 months old and 3 weeks post neuter. Is it okay to cut him back to 1/2 cup of food twice a day? This means 1 cup per day. He eats Fromm. Pork & Applesauce to be more exact.

Tallulah is 11 months old. I have been feeding her 1/2 cup twice a day for a while now. Every once in a while she seems to inhale the food and I will add a little bit more, but for the most part, she seems satisfied with what she is eating. Sometimes she leaves it in the morning and doesn't eat - so I make sure she gets a full cup at night. Also feeding Fromm, Pork and Peas.

How much are you feeding him now? If you do cut back, just keep an eye on his weight. All dogs are different, so if he starts losing or looking thin you could add some back in.

I was feeding him 1 1/2 cups of Fromm puppy formula. 3 weeks post neuter I've started him on adult food. He is 32 pounds! Although his figure is stunning if I do say so myself.

Wow, he is a healthy handsome fellow! I think its a good idea to cut back on food once a dog is spayed or neutered. The reproductive organs use a certain amount of calories to maintain. That is part of the reason animals sometimes become overweight afterward.

We did the same for Bisou. She was on about 1-1/2 cups per day, and once she hit about 9-10 months we cut back to a little over a cup per day. She gets a few goodies here and there too, but she's always maintained her figure. I've heard to test them by running your finger along their ribcage - if you can feel each individual rib without too much fat/skin in between but you can't see the ribs, that's a good sign he's at the right weight. Not perfect, but a good estimate. :)

If you do cut back on his food, just make sure it's enough to maintain his weight. He looks good right now, so you want him to stay that way. Just weight him periodically to make sure he is not losing weight.

It will also depend on his activity level and how much to feed. So I would keep an eye on his weight if you do cut back. He looks good now.
