Hello,

Just wanted to stop in and see if anyone has had their Frenchies dew claws removed. If so, was there an injury or a recommendation by the vet or did you have them removed 'just because' or 'personal preference'?

And trust me, I'm not some creepy girl with a dog foot fetish, but if you have pictures of the area after surgery, so I can see the remaining scar, definitely submit them. :detective:

It is really personal preference, and in show dogs, they can have them or not, it doesn't matter. Hazel and Hilary still have theirs and Henri does not. I am not home right now so I can't get a pic of his scars, but they are pretty small and you really don't notice them.

I like to leave my babies with everything they were born with (except neutering) unless there is a problem. I have had 2 Bulldogs' eyes fixed!

Stella had hers removed as a baby. You really can't even see a scar.

Quella will have hers removed when she is spayed next month. It's a personal choice for all of my previous/future dogs and I'll be honest, it's for appearance but for preventative measures from possible injuries in the :Arizona: terrain, snag on a blanket, etc. as well.

I'm hoping for a speedy recovery, as she is having it done well after birth and will definitely be in pain and discomfort, which we all hate to see as pet owners.

This is how Q feels about both surgeries next month...

I think it is just a preference for the breed/breeder. Bolt still has his and I'm fine with it. Our Labradors all have them removed by the breeder when the pups are a few days old. I think it is more common with certain breeds, like Labradors, due to their working nature and the possibility of getting them snagged when out in the field or duck blind.

Isn't it like having your thumb nail removed? or your whole thumb? :nervous::nervous:

It's more like removing from the knuckle, similar to declawing a cat, I believe. I cringe thinking about putting her through the procedure and yes, she will be in pain after, but I can't imagine her getting it caught on something (whether it's common or not) and then needing emergency surgery and under anesthesia again.

Calle Roo I totally agree with you, we had a pug who got her's stuck in a blanket and pulled it out. I felt terrible for her it was a mess. I hope everything works out well. ;)
