Feeling guilty today (venting)

My boyfriend is out of town this weekend, and normally in this situation in the past, we would put the dogs with our dog sitter when I have to work. Unfortunately she was unavailable today and his trip was sort of last minute. So I had to leave Aiko in her X-pen with her crate inside.... which isn't a big deal right? The problem is that I work 8 hours! I FEEL SO TERRIBLE!!!! I gave them breakfast early this morning and then half of their lunch before I left, and will give the rest of lunch when I get home with dinner. I would have just let her have free roam but she is still SO young, and Banksys food was down this morning he was refusing to eat, so I didnt want her to eat it all! Oh brother...This is the very first time I have ever left them for this long, and I tell ya it will for sure be the last. I can hardly focus, all I can think about is Aiko in the X-pen probably trying to get out. Am I worrying too much? I feel AWFUL :mellow: So.... I figured I would come to the forum and vent because I'm sure my coworkers are sick of me talking about the dogs all the time

I have even offered to leave the office early and cut my shift short if we are slow, so I can race home and be with them.

Sheesh. I had plans tonight to go to a babyshower which I have now cancelled because I would not even dare go home just to leave again. :whew:

It is nice of you to worry, but in reality she probably got tired of trying to get out and slept most of the day!

I feel your pain. It's hard when you have to leave them longer than you're comfortable with. I'm sure she is fine though. You need a nanny-cam haha. Do you have a friend or neighbor that could come in and play with them for a bit or walk them? I have realized with my dog sitter that I need a back up because she isn't always available. Extra special cuddle time tonight!

Let us know how they do... But I'm sure all she did was sleep. On a side note--- I'm the same way, we have a sitter mid-day so the pups are not alone all day

You are right - we totally do need a back up. It was hard enough finding the first one! Let the search begin...

And yes extra cuddles tonight for sure. 3.5 more hours to go! :facepalm:

That is an excellent idea! Someone to just pop in during the day would be nice for days like these. I wonder what the pricing for that would be! Looks like I have some research to do!

I feel you! But you dont have to worry! It doesnt happen daily,so there is nothing to feel too guilty about.
There was one time I was on a movie set and shortly before we wrapped a blizzard hit us so we couldnt leave the building. Maple was alone for 13 hrs that day and I felt AWFUL! Just plain awful! But when I got home she was fine and just looked sleepy; I am certain she slept the entire time because once I was home she was hyper for the following hours lol

here in PA, i found a great lady that comes for 45 mins a day and we pay $16 a day

I will look into that. That sounds lovely.

I really lucked out with the lady we have currently. She charges $20 a day for a full day of daycare.. and $25 for over nights! We haven't needed an over night stay before, but I think its a pretty good deal if/when the time comes!

They did fine. Banksy didn't eat all day though. His breakfast was still sitting there when I got home and he wouldn't eat it until I got settled in and started relaxing on the couch. He is so sensitive. It's odd. As for aiko there was a bit of a mess to clean up but they were both just happy to see me and to play together. Thanks for the comments today guys they really helped me today

I totally get that you would be worried! I was heading home one day and got caught up in traffic, so I'd been out for 5 1/2 hours and I felt AWFUL!!!!! I was so stressed out about it!! Got home and Dexter was sound asleep in his crate. He didn't care at all!

[MENTION=1276]hannah[/MENTION], glad you are home and that they did well. I think it's good that you have two dogs and so even though you are not there, they are not alone. I do think for the most part, they just curl up and take a sleepie for most of the day. I think it is harder on us than on them.

For sure. That's one of the reasons we got another one! I would have felt less guilty if aiko wasn't in her xpen so they could play. When she is a bit older and trained it will be better !

And your probably right that it's worse on us. Some people think I obsess too much over them but I can't help it. I couldn't imagine not caring about things like this!

You're such a good puppy mom!! I'm glad you got to leave early and that everything was fine. We leave our dogs all day and they never seem to be stressed out by it, it's just part of our routine. I don't think they even play at all, they seem to just sleep all day waiting for me to get home.

Thanks!! I try! I relaxed a bit when Banksy got older but now my stress levels seem to be back up again with the new puppy. She is settling in though. We're trying our best!
