Hi everyone

My partner and I are fostering Ernie a rescue French pomerian cross who we have had for 3 weeks. He is wonderful around people but around other dogs goes right up to them square on a stares them in the face often jumping on them. I think it’s over excitement not aggression but a few dogs have really gone for him and I’m worried given how stubborn he is that he doesn’t know when to back down. Also if we are out and in a pub garden and he sees other dogs he cries and screams when he cannot say hi. He’s a fab dog but hard given he is tricky around dogs. Any tips welcome thanks

Welcome to FBN…. Straight on face to face is a challenge in dog language, very rude behavior to them. He most likely didn’t have much socialization as a puppy. See if you can get training through the rescue to help show you how he should approach another dog and hopefully offer you social training for him

Thank you so much for this advice - i wonder if being on the lead is hard for him as he feel he cannot get away? Do you think neutring will help?

Lead is necessary and he’ll adjust… my puppy HATED his collar and lead for about two months when we first got him… he got over it. Neutering doesn’t have any impact for socialization. My opinion is to wait till at least 18 months to spay/neuter… 2 years is best
