Hi all,
I am new to this forum and also a new owner of my cute three month old French Bulldog named Rio.
Everything has been going great - he's so playful and cute! We absolutely love him! However, about a month ago (two weeks after we got him) he developed this cough all of the sudden. He mostly coughs in the morning right after waking up and sometimes during the night. It only lasts a few minutes but it's a very prominent cough. It sounds like there is a lot of mucus and he kind of chokes to get it out but then swallows it back down - I've never actually seen the mucus.
Once this started we immediately took him to the vet and they diagnosed it as kennel cough and put him on some antibiotics. After 10 days when the antibiotics we're finished the cough still did not go away. We took him back to the vet where they did an x-ray of his lungs to make sure no signs of phenomena, which thankfully he didn't have. They thought it might be an upper respiratory infection so put him on stronger antibiotics. The cough still did not go away after two weeks. Finally we took him back and they decided nothing was too serious and took him off any antibiotics as he was on them for so long. Being concerned parents, we sent the vet a video of the cough in the morning. They called us today deciding to want to do a culture tomorrow making sure there's no other infection. If that comes back normal they will want to check out the trachea.
He seems completely fine, his energy level is totally normal, loves eating and does not have any runny nose. But I am still concerned as the cough sounds very bad and will not go away. We keep getting different opinions from the vet and other specialists. Can anyone help?
