Hello all,

just wanted to hear your feedback, so I am planning getting Bo fixed and my vet already has his date setup for it but he will barely be 5 months old when they do it, I have heard from many people to wait until at least 6 months old and i have read that some people have even waited longer, just wonder if I should push it back more to help him develop more before getting him fixed. and when did all of you get their pup fixed if you have?

thanks!

I think they may develop physically more if you wait until they are 1, but we had Buster done at 8 months because of behavior. We have had English Bulldogs neutered at 5 or 6 months because of a hernia and it didn't change their manliness in any way!

I would definitely encourage you to do some research before you neuter Bo at such a young age. IMO 6 months is still too young. I'm a believer that you should wait until they are finished growing. Gus just had his neuter on Friday - he is almost 14 months old.

Here are a couple of links.

If there's no behavioural issues wait till about a year to avoid any orthopedic issues later on since the growth plates will have fully closed by then.

Thank you all for the feed back. He’s pretty well behaved as of now. But of course still roams and sniffs a lot. Hasn’t started marking things yet. He isn’t aggressive with other dogs. More submissive than anything when first meeting them. And has a ton of energy which I don’t mind. So probably just going to hold it off until things change a lot with him. Thank you!

I agree with others that if it were me, I would wait until about a year if you can. He sure is a cutie patootie!!

Yup, unless there is a medical reason I would wait as close to a year as possible.

Hello and welcome!!
Bo sure is a good looking little man!!
Great advice from some great folks! I'll echo their comments.
We neutered our first little boy at 1.5 years old per advice from our vet and only because of incessant marking.
Our little man Charlie is a hair over one year old and is behaving wonderfully, so no plans to neuter him at this time.
Best to you and please don't be shy about posting more pics of Bo. We love pics!!!

Agree... nothing sooner than 8 mths

He is handsome!! We also waited a year for Wally. Good idea to wait if there's no behavioural issues.
