Hey everyone, this is Willow 🤍
She’s 9 years old and I’ve had her since she was a pup. Up until about 5 months ago she’s always been a spritely, loving, funny little character.
I found this forum while searching for advice and shared experiences around Frenchies with possible spinal issues or pain, and I’m really grateful to have found you all.
The main reason I’ve joined is that over the last few days Willow has had a sudden change in mobility and behaviour, and while we’re working with our vet, I’d really appreciate hearing from others who’ve been through something similar with their Frenchies — especially around managing rest, movement, and recovery. Unsure what is going on :-( but looks like it’s pointing towards being pain related. She’s eating still but seems to be slower in her response and not voluntarily moving about like before. No barking at the door bell, no excitement to see me and generally just not her usual self. Monitoring her closely at the moment to see what to do next steps.
Looking forward to learning and sharing with you all. 💛

Welcome… we did red light laser therapy to help our guy when he started down this road. It really helped lessen the inflammation and pain. We also did acupuncture.

We blocked stairs and carried him up/down, walks were limited and always leashed.

Sending lots of healing prayers

Thank you. That’s helpful to know.
Sadly she has become worse after the initial episode almost a week ago. Not looking good. This morning she hasn’t moved and can’t stand. Waiting for a call back from the vets for next steps . 😟

How did the appointment go? Any improvement for your girl?

Has the vet given her any medication? And is there a neurologist near you that could take a look at her?
Started with just Metacam, but wasn’t enough so has now been given Gabapentin, has taken that for the last 2 days. I had to call the emergency out of hours vet last night- as she was really in a bad way. Trembling with her head stooped forward and unable to stand for long. They advised me to increase the Gabapentin. I had to hand feed her her food. 🥺
The tablets knocked her out and she slept until this morning. She managed to stand and squat to pee this AM when I carried her out. But that was it. I took her into my vet again and couldn’t believe it but she perked up! She was alert and wasn’t showing signs of distress. The vet said she is still showing strength on all her legs 🤷🏽‍♀️ I showed her videos of what she was like at home the last few days.. and mentioned IVDD but she seemed not that worried. She mentioned doing an X-ray at the practice tomorrow- but I said will that give us enough information? And pushed for her to do a ct scan. She then said ok we will refer her to a neurologist. So willow has an appointment now with a neurologist on Thursday morning.
She is so up and down. I’m hoping that we’ve caught it if it is IVDD in good time 🙏🏽

Definitely get her to a neurologist for a MRI if you can. My male has had IVDD surgery and has recently had a flair up. He’s going back to the neurologist on Wednesday. You’re vet didn’t prescribe steroids?

Hiya, Willow had her Neurology appointment and she has been diagnosed with cancer that has spread to her brain. They have given her weeks to live. I’m heartbroken. 💔
Thank you so much for your messages xx
