My blue frenchie has alot of food allergies and IBS. He has been on several foods. Raw was the best but I can't afford it and kibble is better to feed because we travel. Tried Zignature he can't do it because it has alafa. Right now on Acana duck and pear and he poops 4 to 6 a day and soft. Vet wants to put him on Hydrolyzed soy prescription.:(
No way I will feed my dog that crap. Soy has no nutritional value for dogs.
Anyone out there with food issues and IBS. Any advice would help
Thanks

I think raw will save you money in the long run, but if you really are opposed, what about adding some raw milk to his diet? Answers has a raw fermented goat's milk and a raw cow kefir. They've actually had some success with IBS on this 30 day raw milk diet thing that they do.

Here is a website that has some more info if you are interested. I'm all for healing the body, rather than just suppressing symptoms.

I don't find frozen raw to be any more expensive when I buy it in large size, but it would be impossible to travel with frozen raw. Perhaps you can use frozen raw when not travelling and dehydrated raw when travelling.

I agree with Frenchie Grrl, probiotics are very helpful for irritable bowel. Some good commercial ones include Herbsmith Microflora Plus, Proviable DC, and Probiotic Miracle.
Milk kefir can be very inexpensive if you get the kefir grains eg. from here https://www.culturesforhealth.com/milk-kefir-grains.html and make your own. It's really easy, just add milk and strain the fermented milk from the grains by pouring through a plastic strainer with nylon mesh. If your dog is lactose intolerant you can use coconut milk instead of regular milk.

Take a look at Grandma Lucy's Artisan and Pureformance freeze dried foods. They are highly rated by dogfoodadvisor.com and are easy to transport, a 3 lb. bag makes around 15 lbs. of food after water is added. My picky boy loves every flavor of this food I have given him and it is the least offensive smelling dog food I have ever used, smells somewhat like cup of soup.

Titan has never formally been diagnosed with IBS but from his horrific bout of parasites he gets asymptomatic every 4-6 months I’d say.

I’ve never done anything really but feed him Fromm 4 Star chicken a la veg & when he gets a flare up of diarrhea I do 3 day antibiotics. It’s worked for me.

Titan cannot eat ANY protein other than chicken. His digestive system can’t handle anything else. If I HAVE to as a last resort I can use pork, but I pay for it later. :/

blushy. My boy is allergic to beef chicken turkey duck.. He does well on Bison and Venison. Honeys Owners this is why raw is too expensive for me. I tried raw venison and it worked but is so expensive . I have to feed 2 patties a day. Even with the chicken I would get 12 patties for $36. Feed 2 a day so that's $36 a week. Crazy. I might have to try the hydrolyzed diet

If you can get his gut healed, it's possible that he'll stop having reactions to so many proteins. Does he do well on lamb?

Frenchie Grrl No lamb. He chews on feet and gets blisters between toes

Some people have good luck with Earthborn Holistic limited ingredient dry food https://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/earthborn-holistic-venture-limited-ingredient-diets-dog-food/

Good morning,
We are new to this website and found it when we were at our wits end with the frequent loose stool, "Soft serve" and multiple times of pooping with our French bulldog, Buddy. After getting rid of Giardia from the breeder's location, we started with loose and wet stools. After re-testing stool for parasites, we tried boiled chicken, rice, and no real luck. So, back to the Vet and we were advised to change the food to "Digestive Care" food ( both dry and canned). It is prescription only. That didn't seem to fix the problem, until we found this site. After reading all of the information that you all shared, we realized that we may be over feeding our guy. We cut back his food by 1/4 cup and within 24 hours, no loose or wet stools. "WE HAVE HARD POOP", along with high-fives, every time we took Buddy out. He also started to slow down on the number of times he went, and his energy level is much better. I'm a bit surprised that our vet didn't know about this common issue with French Bulldogs. I want to thank you all for helping our little six month old Buddy in getting his gut back to a good place. We will slowly re-introduce him back to our regular food after two weeks of normal stools. I never thought that I would be this interested in my dog's poop, but "Happy Log, is Happy Dog". Sorry, I just had to add that last one......
