Went to pick Hudson up today from the required "play day" at the dog hotel he's staying at at the end of the month. All seemed fine until I looked at his eye. We made an immediate trip to the vet.

Vet said she thinks a dog's toenail went into his eye. Punctured the white part, tore his eyelid, and scratched his face. Poor baby is in sooo much pain.

She put him on two oral meds and gave me an ointment.

Anyone have any suggestions for what I can do to make him more comfortable? I feel so horrible for him :(. He's being super clingy and I feel horrible for him.

The part under his eye has gotten more swollen, looks like half a golf ball poking out now.

Poor baby!! I would put the ointment in every few hours, that is direct antibiotic to the eye. Let us know how he's doing.

I'm so sorry...poor little guy.

The better his immune system, the quicker he'll heal up. Try to sneak some nice dark berries into his food.

Plus lots of cuddles :(

Oh, poor Hudson! Just watching Buster play, these Frenchies are really scrappy little guys. He will heal fast!

Great suggestion thank you! He loves blueberries. And thank you. He literally slept on top of me last night, he's never been this clingy.

I'm trying, but he's veeerrryy resistant to the ointment. He takes the pills straight out of my hand but the ointment is a battle...hopefully it'll go better when I have another person here. Thank you!

Poor thing :( Keep us updated.

I will! He's not wanting to eat or drink and is just doing a lot of sleeping. I figure he's working on healing. Anyone have any suggestions for foods their frenchies go crazy for? I'm willing to make anything for him. Swelling seems to be better. He wanted to mess with it a lot last night but is leaving it alone now.

Yeah, I'm not sure what happened because the place didn't notice it until I said something.. They said no altercations happened and it was probably just because he loves to play so much. I sure hope he heals fast!

Poor baby boy, hope he gets better soon.

OUCH.... oh my goodness!! Hope he heals up real quick... poor little man! :hug;

Thanks guys! He's looking a lot better this evening and is wanting to walk around more. He's not enjoying my forced resting! Hopefully he continues to improve this quickly

I don't know if it's because the swelling went down and I can actually see the injury or what but his eye looks even more torn than it did. Eek. I hope it's just because the swelling went down and it didn't get worse. He's been really good at leaving it alone and he seems to be in pretty good spirits

Here's a picture showing what his eye looks like today. Swelling has gone down almost totally but his eye is definitely still ripped open :(.

slow heal, but it does look a lot better

Glad he is improving. How is his appetite?

His appetite has been pretty inconsistent. Sometimes he wants to eat a lot, and other times, like this morning, he doesn't want to eat at all. I'm not super concerned by this though since he has never been a big eater.

Things are looking better today, his eye is a lot less pink and raw looking. It's turning back to the normal dark lining.

Ollie LOVES SAlmon and it's great for the coat too!

Soooo sorry to heat this. I have not read all the posts but I assume you called the Doggie Hotel back and cancelled your reservation and sent them the BILL for the vet visit?
