Is it odd to ask this?

Okay, I am totally Frenchie crazy. I have only seen a couple, and those belong to a Veterinarian that works with us part time. I always bug him to bring Frenchies with him but he's only done it a couple times . Anyway I want my family to see how fun and adorable and all around GREAT they are. So, we are going to Pigeon Forge next week. I saw 2 breeders in that area. I emailed them explaining what I just explained to you guys, with a little more detail and asked if we could come and see them. I feel kind of odd about asking. I don't want them to think I'm some puppy thief or weirdo. I really don't expect them to say that we can come, but I'm hoping one does. Anyway, do you think it's out of line to have asked?

not strange at all... you want to ensure the whole family is on the same page and the breeder should be happy you are doing so

Nope not strange at all.
A good breeder loves talking about the breed and will always answer all the questions you have.

So dont worry :)

Ahh that makes me feel much better. Thank you both!

I say go for it too! Good breeders LOVE to show off their breeding stock and their babies!

I emailed them both. I haven't heard back. Hopefully they just haven't checked their email. I'm not going to bother them again if I don't hear anything but being able to see some Frenchies, and to show my husband and daughters how awesome they are would make my trip 10 times better! *crossing my fingers*

If a breeder doesn't want you to come see their babies and their breeding stock, move on. All good breeders will want you to see their place and breeding stock, plus will want to interview you as well.

Thank you David. While I'm not ready to get a new friend right now because of my elderly dog, I would like to talk to various breeders so I can get an idea of who is on the up and up. That, and introducing my family to Frenchies. I've been reading about and thinking about them for several years. My terrier mix is diabetic, and blind. I think it would be too stressful for him to add another to the mix. He's my baby and I want him to be as happy as he can be. He's the best dog ever!

^^EXACTLY. And this is your chance to interview them as well, because as much as you want a Frenchie, you want to make sure you feel comfortable with where it's coming from. I encountered some really snooty pieces of work during my search. I know that they were just being protective of their pups, which I appreciated, but one breeder told me I'd need to submit to some surprise home visits during the first year and if she didn't feel I was doing a good enough job with the dog, she was taking it from me. Who needs that kind of stress? So I moved on and kept looking until I found the right breeder. I went and hung out at their house a few times and just played with all of their puppies. They got to know me and I know them. We still text regularly and are friends on Facebook. I can call her whenever I'm having problems or if I have questions. And she gets to see her baby growing up. I couldn't have asked for a better situation.

Kim, that does sound like a great situation. It's great that she is there for you to ask questions and help with problems. I'm with you, about the surprise visits for a year. I mean, we are a great home for our dogs, and they are well cared for. I wouldn't mind someone coming to visit them whenever they wanted but the idea of "taking the puppy back" sounds almost threatening and doesn't sit well with me. I am sure they were well meaning, but maybe they could have worded that a bit better or something lol. Nobody answered my emails about visiting while we were in TN. I think they may be busy but I was hoping one would call. I really wanted to see some Frenchies and especially my husband and kids to see some so they could (hopefully..as was my plan) go nuts over them like I have been for a few years now.

What about finding a frenchie dog show to go to? That was suggested to me, and it's a great way to see alot of frenchies and probably some great breeders too, as many show dog homes also breed. Just an idea! Good luck! Karla

Karla, I have been looking, but short of the AKC site for shows, I don't know where to look. The only ones I see on there around here are next year. Any suggestions? Are there shows just for Frenchies? I don't know a thing about showing so I don't know where to start to even find one.

Yeah, I had that same challenge trying to find frenchie shows. It's a great idea but I can't help you execute as I never figured it out either! Sorry!
