Jax had his allergy test today and is allergic to several different grasses, trees/shrubs, weeds, molds and dust mites. He will start his allergy shots next week and was prescribed Apoquel as well. It can take 3-4 months to see a response and up to 9 months to a year for him to fully benefit from the vaccine. (sigh)

It is so worth it to have him not itchy! These guys are a real commitment!

Definitely a commitment but I love him so much I would do anything in my power for him. It sucks he will have to get shots forever but if it helps them it will be worth it. I'm glad I know what the issues are now, no more guessing.

Hope it works for him, and he gets better soon.

I agree, the guessing game is the worst part!

Good to have a definitive diagnosis. Good luck and I hope he sees an improvement soon.

Great that you know the casue.... prayers that the shots work and he can be itch free!

The English I had as a kid had grass allergies. He got an allergy shot monthly. My mom was warned that it would shorten his lifw. Her thoughts were quality vs quantity. Richard lived to be 12

Jake, who is 15 months has been on allergy shots for about 4 months now. Haven't noticed any improvement yet, kind of soon, but from what I understand there is only about a 50-60% chance the shots will help. We have tried Claritin, Zyrtec and Benadryl, which have not really offered any relief. We also just picked up serum for our little Stella who is 6 months old. She chronically itches her rib cage, but I found some cotton t-shirts for her online to keep her claws from tearing her fur off and getting staph infections. Seems to help. Apoquel is also not an option for Stella as she is too young.
Good luck to Jax and to all the poor little allergy sufferers out there. Not fun.

What are Jake's allergies? I think I read that it was like 75% chance the shots would work. Also, it can take up to 1 year before improvement is made. Being that Jax is allergic to pretty much everything outside, my only other option would be to keep him in a bubble (kidding). I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping the shots will work.

Cbrugs Jake is allergic to dust mites, certain grasses and weeds. He seems a little better, but I don't know if the shots are helping or if it is the weather, etc. Our little Stella has another staph infection from scratching. Her allergies are a lot worse. We have just started her allergy shots though. So fingers crossed along with you. Good luck!
Sorry I saw your post so late, still learning how to navigate around.
