Jake is my 1 1/2 yr. old neutered boy who has started mounting my 9 mo. old Stella who has been spayed. It occurs when I am playing fetch with Stella. He will run after her and then flatten her and mount her. Poor Stella just looks trapped and confused for a few seconds until he gets off of her. I'm just not sure if he is playing and getting in on the game, or if he is trying to dominant her. Sometimes I can manage to play fetch with two different balls which I throw in different directions. I sometimes feel like maybe he is a little jealous that I am playing with her. I just don't know if I should ignore it and let them work it out, or if I should be correcting him with a "NO". Fetch is Stella's absolute favorite game of all time so I don't want to deny her just because Jake is acting up. I have read so much conflicting info. and I'm not sure what I should do. Any thoughts? Has anyone experienced this with their dogs?

Definitely correct him when he does it. They will do this when they get excited and also for a dominance thing. You telling him NO will let him know it is not accepted behavior.

I agree with everyone else. I would correct him.

Stella tries doing this to Tank...who is bigger than her by about 40lbs! I always just yell at her to knock it off and that usually does the trick. Play continues but without the mounting. Good luck! :)

Thanks everyone. Will go with giving him a firm "No"!
