Hi Everyone,

We have an amazing 14 week old Frenchie named Stella. We were given Royal Canin Puppy to feed her, after lurking around the forums I've come to believe we should switch her to something better. I've been looking at Orijen brands and Blue Wilderness. Can anyone recommend a great puppy food for our puppy? We are located in Canada and would like to buy something that is convenient at either Pet Smart, Pet Value or Global Pet Foods.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to you and Stella...she is a cutie!

Definitely get her off the RC, it is not a good food. I wouldn't feed Blue either, they've had some recalls. Orijen is a good food. Some other good ones are Acana and Fromm. Dogfoodadvisor.com is a good resource for researching dog food.

It doesn't actually need to be a puppy food, an all stages food will also be fine. Orijen is a great dry kibble dog food, as a matter of fact it's considered the best dry dog food made in Canada ! Other good Canadian companies include Petcurean Go and Now , Horizon Legacy, Boreal, Nutrience SubZero etc. If your puppy starts getting allergies you might want to switch to a frozen raw diet or dehydrated raw diet. I'm in the process of switching my allergic dog to a dehydrated raw dog food called Canisource Grand Cru beef formula which isn't grain free, and I'll see how she does. They also make a grain free fish formula which I would rotate with.

What cutie pie!!

If going all stages grain free like Orijen you are in good shape!

Thanks everyone for your help! We picked up some Orijen Puppy and will begin slowly changing her over the next 10 days.

Great move ! It's important to give her the Orijen in the proper quantity per day, otherwise you can induce too rapid growth which will cause orthopedic problems later. Start with bag recommendations and if poo is loose after the 10 day transition then decrease amount, or if she is constipated then increase the amount.

Nulo? I tried it and my frenchie has done great on it. I also tried wellness core and she did great on it as well. Both available at local big box pet stores. That was a main key point for me as well aside from trying to get a good food.
