I like Acana as a company. They're local to me and the ingredient list makes sense. Their Orijen line is also considered good quality, although higher in protein. People are of differing opinions about the optimal protein level for moderately active dogs.
The real benefit of the Acana Singles is that they contain only one source of protein, and you know exactly what it is. This way you can evaluate dogs with food sensitivities or outright allergies. Our pug girl has had skin allergies her whole life (scabs and thick black skin on her belly/armpits), and she does well on food that contains only duck as protein. So we are currently feeding her Fromm Four-Star Duck and Sweet Potato. Her skin is basically clear at the moment. While we haven't tried it yet, the Acana Duck & Bartlett Pear would also be right up her alley. We like to rotate foods once in a while.
For Junior the Frenchie puppy, we currently feed Acana Grasslands from their Regionals line. It's chicken- and grain-free, just to see if some redness on the skin between his toes improves. It has four different protein sources: lamb, duck, eggs, and fish. If we see no improvement with this, we might try one of the singles.
Cheers,
Lisa
