Hi everyone... we have been going back and forth with deciding to potty train on pads or outside. Our 10wk old uses the pads inside 75% of the time which is great, but we were trying like crazy to train her outside during this time. She does not like the cold nor the snow, so looking for any ideas during the winter. thanks.

We had the same cold temps and snow when we got Buster. He hated going out in it so we used pads inside. We quit using the pads when he started chewing them and playing with them. He was an easy transition to outside because we have a pet door and an older brother he followed. Not everyone has an easy transition from pads to outside.

We brought home our little man in January last year at 11 weeks and we trained outside...upstate NY was a cold winter!!! He didn’t care much for actually going out the door but once he got in the yard he would do his business pretty quickly. Once he went it was a quick treat then I’d excitedly praise him and say “inside” a few times while going to the door, he’d get another treat once we got in(honestly it was just a piece of his food but he didn’t catch on, lol).

Quite frankly it was probably worse on me, I found that we had to be pretty quick because when he had to go...it was a rush, if my coat or shoes wasn’t ready I went without ‘em! I always had the treats by the door so he could get his reward but I’m not gonna lie, I def didn’t always have my coat, lol...only once or twice without my shoes[emoji20][emoji51]🤣🤣

Definitely praise and give treats when she she does go outside. Frenchies can be stubborn but eventually she will get it. Consistency is very important.

Always a good idea to encourage the outside aspect to training.

In cold weather, when Loki was younger, I carried him outside to a waiting pad.

Success was met with lavish praise (you'd think he just won the Olympics) and a treat when he got back inside.
