Max and Tobi are cute dogs!
food allergies is definitely common in these breeds.
Chicken is the most common food allergy.
Definitely no more chicken, my Frenchie Rusty hasn’t had chicken before I never feed him chicken as he has allergies too. Rusty’s allergies started at 4-5 months of age. Rusty is 4 years now.
Are you open to feed him raw dog food?? Some pet stores carry it and some you can order from companies. It’s the best food for allergies, but I know raw is not for everyone.
Rotating proteins prevents new foods allergies, so even if you feed him kibble right now, and you get him onto a better quality, you would rotate proteins so 1 bag could be Sardine, next bag could be beef, next bag can be lamb for example.
Premium kibble brands are:
-Natures Logic brand
-Carna 4 brand
Natures logic is easier to find than Carna 4 and they are the best kibble for allergies and preventative of new health issues, if Raw is not a option.
What food do you feed him??
For treats you both can have while to train him, you can buy some salmon(wild Not farmed), or you can cook some beef.
For training treats I give my dogs freeze dried beef liver and kangaroo which are 1 ingredient treats.
Yes they are prone to joint issues and it’s best if you don’t let him do any stairs or jumping. One of the most common issues in frenchies is IVDD which is a terrible spine disease. Usually genetic though but jumping and stairs make it worse. I do not let Rusty do any stairs or jumping.
It’s definitely best to prevent these issues through good diet and supplements if you can.
Sorry to hear Max hurt his leg, can he walk on it? I wouldn’t let him play for a few days until it’s better.
Do you have anyone around your area that does Laser Therapy for dogs? Some vet clinics do it, but there is someone that comes to the house to treat Rusty where we are. Maybe there is someone in your area that does it too? It basically speeds up the healing and Is anti inflammatory and helps with the pain.
I highly recommend you get him on a high quality joint support supplement as it can help prevent some joint issues and help with his current sore leg.
The best joint supplement which I have Rusty on is Four Leaf Rover brand Hip Joint Powder. It has green lipped mussel in it and curcumin/tumeric in it for great anti inflammatory. I would definitely put Max on it since he may get another sore leg from jumping at the other dog again and that can cause a spine flare up(that’s what happened to Rusty IVDD flare up when he jumped to play with my other dog).
Hopefully Max starts getting better soon!
Here is a photo of the joint supplement I recommend.
