My city loves to put down a ridiculous amount of salt in the winter and I find that if I take the dogs out for a walk eventually they are both lifting up various paws along the way. I have tried booties (expensive kind), disposable booties, and even some wax 'invisible boots' but nothing works.

They both refuse to budge with the expensive booties, Wally more than Uma. Wally also won't wear the disposable booties and I can't find any that fit Uma's paws properly, they either too small or they fall off. The wax I have just doesn't work all that well.

Anyone have any other ideas or suggestions of a good wax to use? I saw Musher's Secret paw wax online. Has anyone tried this particular brand of wax? It's a bit pricey but I am willing to spend money if it means I can take my dogs out in the winter. All 3 of us are going batty with no doggie walks.

Hmmmm, I hope someone comes along soon. I wouldn't have a clue, since we live down south and don't have that problem. I was going to suggest the booties, but I see you already tried that.

I think with booties you need to start putting them on them at 8 weeks so they get used to them when they are young. I have not heard of any mushers wax that works, but maybe this is something new. Do they give a money back guarantee?

I have used Mushers for years... It is a great soother snd does protect the paws

I also use Mushers too, great results. The city over salt the sidewalks and streets over here.

Thank you! I don't mind the price if it means they can get outside. We all love the outdoors and I hate walking without them.

Banksy would never wear booties - I just know it already so won't even bother with them. We just make sure to wipe their feet with a warm cloth when they come in.

Coconut oil would work for soothing them also for after

Have you tried using Pawz disposables? I added the link below. =)

Yes, I have with my Boston but they don't stay on and the next size down is too small. Wally won't wear anything on his paws at all.

I just bought Mushers Secret paw wax so I'll give it a try if we ever get snow this winter.

Q-Roux wears Pawz in size small, but she does have lil chicken legs. She doesn't mind them, but then again as most of you know, she wears anything mommy puts on her without a fight. I bought them to protect her ears and belly from scratching due to allergies. I took a hole punch and made holes in them so her feet could breathe while wearing them extended periods. When Q got spayed, I put a cone of shame on her and she stood frozen in shame. It took a good 20-30 mins and some coercing with treats to get her to finally feel comfortable enough to move around with it on. I wonder if Wally would eventually do the same. Luckily I don't have to deal with the salt, snow, sleet, but the summers are brutal. It's usually too hot for Q to even go outside, but when we do, I always carry her. I've tried on a few different boots which she didn't mind, it's just that they always rotated on her ankles and she was walking weird to accommodate them.

I can usually get the dogs to do anything but with booties Wally just lies down and refuses to move. I don't want to drag him out on a walk so I returned the boots. It's funny, as soon as I posted this thread about paw protection the cold weather went away and we've been having a spring-like winter ever since.

I don't know. Winter hasn't arrived yet so I haven't had to use it. lol! It looks like we're going to get cold weather tomorrow so I may get to try it out tomorrow morning. I'll keep you posted!

I tried out Mushers Secret last night as it was quite cold and windy and they salted the sidewalks again. They both were fine up until the same area, which had a pile of salt on the sidewalk, and they both lifted up a paw. Once I got them walking on the snow they were fine. This stuff works a lot better than the other wax I had. I would recommend it for those who have bootie hating dogs like I do.
