Hi guys

My 7 month old frenchie is recently fully house trained and hasn’t had an accident in the house for a couple of weeks now apart from in his cage overnight.

We take him for 2 walks a day and let him out at 11pm before we go to bed, and he usually poops on his late walk at 7pm or when we let him out before bed.

We put his pillow/bed in his cage and cover the cage with a towel. For the last 3 nights we have got up around 7am to find him sat on the left side of his pillow with poop on the right side of the pillow. Last night we even tried putting a puppy pad at the back of the cage to stop him pooping on his bed but he still pooped in his bed. He never used to do this, and some nights he will have a completely dry night, but then others he’ll poop in his bed.

What’s the best course of action to stop this from happening?

Thanks

I would take out the pillow and just put a towel in cage to start. That way if he poops it , it's easily washed. I would also try changing the times of day you feed him. After 6 months of age he should only be fed twice a day, so maybe feed him first thing in morning and around 6 pm? You can try various times to see what works. What food are you feeding him? Maybe you are feeding him a food with too much fiber. Or maybe you are feeding him too much. If his poos are solid, then you are probably feeding him right amount, but if liquidy you might try a different food or less food per day.

How big is the crate? Sometimes if they have too much room, they will use one side to poop/pee and the other side to sleep. Some crates come with dividers so you can make it into a smaller space until they don’t need it anymore.

Thanks for your help guys, we ended up getting a dog pillow which fit the whole of the cage and that seemed to do the trick!
