Hey all got my 10 week old frenchie yesterday! Bought an All organic dry food while he's so young but really want to get him eating raw either from the shops or at home, live in Australia by the way.
What is a good shop brand for raw and what would be best for preparing his raw food at home? Cheers!

I buy commercially prepared patties Vital Essentials and Hoo Raw. They are already completely balanced. Other brands are Primal and Stella & Chewy. I'm not sure what brands you have available in Australia. Another way that some people do is grind their own. If you do that you'd have to make sure it was the right balance which is 80% meat, 10% bone and 10% organs.

I just looked at New Zealand made Addiction and Ziwipeak dehydrated raw- both are very expensive ! I'm thinking of going dehydrated raw here in Canada and the only reasonably priced one here is Canisource Grand Cru. The other brands such as Amore, NRG and Smack are just as pricey as your brands.

You may want to make your own raw food or buy a premade one that adheres to Prey Model Raw or BARF model. Both models are similar but BARF model adds 10% fruits/vegetables and 10% less muscle meat. If making yourself it's safer to freeze the meat first for 2 weeks to kill any parasites. I pulled the following information off a website:

Prey Model Raw Dog Food Diet

PMR (prey model raw) is designed to provide family dogs with a homemade diet that replicates the diet of a wild canine without requiring the pet to hunt and kill wild prey while eliminating all processed foods and grains. A complete PMR diet for dogs consists of 80% muscle meat, 10% raw edible bone, 5% liver, and 5% other secreting organ.

BARF is an alternative raw diet, designed to provide family dogs with a modified homemade diet that consists of raw meat and bones as well as vegetables and fruit while eliminating all processed foods and grains. A complete BARF diet for dogs consists of 70% muscle meat, 10% raw edible bone, 5% liver, 5% other secreting organ, and 10% veggies/fruit.

Feeding PMR or BARF is a great way to provide a balanced calcium and phosphorous. Start off with poultry necks, wings, and feet – the bones in these cuts are soft and hollow. As your puppy grows larger you can introduce larger bones such as chicken thighs and legs.
