As I'm sure you've all experienced, Bisou is your typical Frenchie and makes some pretty wacky fun noises. She's got her puppy play yip, her alert bark, and her excited/anxious yodel, not to mention her various snores, snorts, and chuffs. I've seen many Frenchies trained to make some of these noises on command, but we can't seem to get it down! Bisou's noises are near impossible to bring on and she seems to make them as she pleases.
When she plays with Shasta, sometimes she's all bark and we need to shush her, but sometimes there isn't a single noise. Some noises outside make her bark, some don't. We've tried to play animal noises from Youtube to get her to react to them, and most of the time she just tries to get inside the computer to find out where it's coming from. Her yodel... oh boy, her death yodel! Some days, when she's feeling super attached to her mama, she'll squeal and yodel for a few minutes when I walk out the door. Joel has tried to record it a few times but hasn't been successful... he says some days she sounds like a kid crying "mom!" She also yodels inside Petco sometimes when she sees another dog she wants to play with. She'll chuff on occasion if we put her in the kitchen, leave the area, then come back a few minutes later, but this isn't consistent either.
It's so adorable, I want to share her silliness with friends and family but it's so hard to catch her doing it! Most of the time, especially with her yodels and alert barks, her noises are being brought on by bad behavior and I don't want to encourage constant barking and separation anxiety. Our shepherd, Shasta, is trained to howl when she years sirens because she gets treats, but most of the time Bisou just stares at her or jumps on her face thinking it's play time. Manny the Frenchie's owner (if you haven't seen their Frenchie family, LOOK THEM UP!) seems to just hold a treat up and they make noises until they get it. Bisou is the most patient dog when she wants to be and will sit and stare for as long as it takes. How do we train Bisou to make her noises on command when they're so sporadic to create? Anyone have any luck with this?
