Is there any particular supplements you guys would recommend to help avoid spinal problems? We have ramps around our couches and don't let our dogs go up or down the stairs, but I'm still terrified of them developing spinal problems in the future. Thanks in advance for the help.

I don’t know if anything will prevent issues from happening but here’s what I give to my IVDD guy: green lipped mussel powder, cbd oil, turmeric paste, bone broth, Mushroom Matrix for joints.

Curious how you manage the stairs thing - I'm assuming baby gates block the steps? Mine jumps on and off the bed and couch probably 50X a day. Tried a ramp and she avoided it and just jumped off to the side.

Yes we use baby gates for the stairs and cary them out of the house for walks. As for the couches I bought 3 ramps for the couch’s we predominantly use, and they have done really well using the ramps.

Agreed... you can’t prevent as unfortunately it is part of the breed. It is a matter of what level issue they will have.

I use, Movoflex, turmeric paste, bone broth and he gets laser therapy once a month

We don't use anything, but all of ours have good spines and no trouble. They jump off the couch all the time. My oldest is almost 10 years old.

I didn’t say my dogs had any spinal issues either. I was just curious if there’s anything I could do to be proactive due to spinal issues being fairly common in the breed.

Jeffc Hmmm, looked at my post and it didn't say your dogs had problems. Bad spines are a genetic thing. They either have great spines or they don't. An X-ray will usually show if they may have problems. If they are good, then they don't need any supplements, just my opinion. But if you choose to give them some, it won't hurt.

The first thing my vet did when we took Jake to the vet at 10 weeks old for his check up was x-ray his spine. He got a clean bill of health. Stella, on the other hand had issues with her spine.
Stella has had two spinal surgeries. I give her bone broth and CBD oil, Stella is not allowed on the stairs and although she sleeps on the bed with us, she would never jump off, she is afraid of heights. She does not jump up on furniture or people either.
If you are concerned of future problems, I would get an x-ray.
