well it time for me to transmission my 8 month old female to another type of dray dog food. she has always been on benefil for puppies, and has done very well on it, in fact she loves. but ive read that it isnt that great of food. have feed my dogs nutro natural choice for over 16 years without, i at least think without, any problems. im on the 1/4 nutro to 3/4 benefil. first day. i noticed part of her stool was mushey. now maybe it takes time but after reading reviews on nutro natural im thinking maybe something else, something better. am i worrying about nothing, is her stool going to be different for a few days. is there a best recommended dry food sold at petsmart i should be looking at.

Iteill be different for a few days. Beneful is awful crap! Nutro is horrible, but not the great. Check out Earthborn, Acana, Orejin, Fromm, Taste of the Wild . They are great foods with a grain free kine

well the local feed store sells Taste of the Wild, not at petsmart.

The breeder I am getting my Frenchie from uses Taste of the Wild. She swears by it and I trust her 100% so I am going to be using that as well. They sell it at Tractor Supply here.

Many good foods are not sold at Petsmart but are easily ordered online with free shipping from chewy.com or Petflow.com

Is your pup on Nuvet plus? If not, you should start that right away. I feed my pups Fromm puppy and Nuvet plus as soon as they are weaned from mom. Nuvet is an immunity builder and keeps your Frenchie healthy. The order code is 1101106. Check out reviews and testimonials on their site.

also going to switch my 7 year old pug over form nutra natural to taste of the wild. i havent been crazy about her stools.

now the puppy taste of the wild are really small bites but not the adult food.

well ill tell you that its scary switching food. i can find so many complaints on almost every dog food recommended.

to much positive and negative about these dog foods, i give up, keep my puppy on benefil and my 8 year old on nutro natural.

Beneful is horrible! Just recently it was all over the news because it has killed many dogs!

havent heard, or seen, anything on the news about benefil but every time i type taste of wild into the internet search all i get is RECALL. now thats scary.

ok i read the articles about benefil, not good. but still feel i need to keep my 8 month old on it. my fear was her getting upset stomach and, or, loose stool while trying to transition. im keeping her on it until she is 12 months then i try taste of the wild. my 8 year old im trying now to taste of the wild. this is something i was dreading doing because of problems that could accrue. what happened to the old days when you could just go into the store and buy your dong some dog food and not have to worry about it killing your dog. i just know as of now the transition to nutro natural hasnt agreed with her and dont want to try another transition to something different. i do appreciate all the info on this subject. im sure not all benefil is killing dogs. believe me, i really wanted to change her food to something better, but after the loose stool and a couple throw ups with nutro natural i figured id wait until she can go on adult food. plus i can now see how my 8 year old reacts to taste of the wild. there both my babies and i know i over worry, and worry and worry. i do see that taste of the wild is a great dog food and thats what i want for my babies, a great dog food.

I understand it can be a hassle when they are experiencing a digestive upset.
But usually they shouldnt if you transition slowly enough. You can also add pumpkin puree and a probiotic to help prevent this.

Every single day your dog keeps eating this horrible brand, is another day he ingests things that arent good for him.

IMO Id rather deal with some loose stool or even the ocassional vomit (which, like I said, you should be able to prevent) rather than expose my dog to potential poison every single day.

Unfortunately the dog food industry is a multi billion dollar business, and sadly people care about money more than about our pets! It can appear stressful to do thorough research on what food to feed, but it is definitely worth it.

There are brands that have never had a recall, such as Acana, Orijen and I believe Fromm as well.

well day two and all is good, no upset stomach and solid poops.

day four is great. you see what i tried was nutro natural for puppies for the transition, and then i saw some mushy poop, and a couple upset stomachs for her, my pug has been on it for years and figured id have them both on the same thing. so after her upset stomach id was leary of trying another brand food. but listening to all here i gave it another try with the taste of the wild. im sure glad i did. both my pug and my 8 month frenchie are doing great on it, and love it. my goal was to get them on something that was better than what they were eating, think thats accomplished.
