Hi,

I have a 18 month old Frenchie who is quite well trained (she has her moments) she can respond to her name, give her paw, sit, lie, spin, and high 5!

We always put her out in the garden in the mornings before we go out and before bed and reinforce it with "go toilet".

She has full roam of the downstairs of our house which includes the kitchen, living room and dining room both at night and day and has down for about a year (after we got over the initial toilet training).

Recently she has really been playing up with no real reason. We have come down a few times in the morning to find she has poo'd on the living room floor (which is carpet) and is no where near the back door, so she doesn't seem to be attempting to go. She doesn't bark, or scratch on the door to get out during the night either so we aren't aware that she needs to go out.

This has happened a few times and is now becoming more regular, and she has now started to do it in the day while we are out (our routine hasn't changed at all).

Today we have been home and she has been in the garden with us, we popped out for 20 minutes and on our return have found that she has poo'd on the carpet in the living room again!

Has anyone else had this problem, or have any ideas on how we can try and teach her (at this late stage) to at least attempt to get outside?

Any help would be much appreciated!

They will do this sometimes, and it's back to basic house training. Frenchies can be hard to house train sometimes. Just be patient and keep after the training.

I agree with David. I would go back to basics. I wouldn't leave her alone unattended and give her the opportunity. Put her in a crate at night, or when you aren't there to watch her.

The Crate is back in action now much to her disapproval! Hopefully it will upset her enough that she realises she shouldn't be messing in the house.
Thank you for your advise! its soo frustrating when she has been clean for months and months but then seems to forget everything again! Hopefully this will work.

I hope it works well for you. *crossing my fingers*

agree... they are stinkers to train -- best of luck going back to the basics with him. it did take us close to 2 yrs to get Cheli fully on-board
