Cold Water or Room Temperature?

Been giving my girl cold water to drink especially when she's active to help cool her down. She's not hot from the weather since she's indoors 95% of the time with AC. However, had a buddy say that pets shouldn't have cold water because then they'd drink more than they need to just because they like the cold water. He suggests switching to room temp water. Thoughts?

Thanks a bunch!

I don't give cold water but I don't know if it's a no-no or not. I give bottled water at room temperature.

I find my dogs don't drink extra if the water is cold. Usually the more they drink during the day the better, since the dry dog food is hard on their kidneys if they do not drink enough to flush the protein wastes out. If they drink extra they will just pee it out, unless they have a bad heart.

Okay, yeah I thought so too. It wasn't like she was drinking until she was throwing up. I'm going to keep it with the cold water especially this season to keep her hydrated. Thanks! :D

There are some who believe cold water that is drank too rapidly can cause bloat. I give mine room temperature water from a filter system. When it's hot I will sometimes give them a few ice cubes to play with and eat.

We give ours cold because our water filter is on the fridge, and change it out a few times a day. I don't notice Gus having a preference over the temp, honestly. He just drinks when he's thirsty, but I would think there would be a much greater chance that a dog would be getting too little water than too much.
