The countdown till I get Frankie is at 11 days! He had his first vet visit and is a healthy 6.2 pounds with no issues noted. However, I learned that one of his sisters has a heart murmur. The breeder is going to take her to a specialist to find out what kind of murmur, but I fear it is a serious one. She was the largest puppy at birth and quickly fell to smallest. She is not as spunky and had problems feeding, learning to walk, etc which the breeder immediately noted. If it is a severe one the breeder told me she would give her to a woman who cares for ill puppies until they pass, which for this little girl, may be about 2 years. I am so sad for this puppy, but now am concerned about Frankie. He is the largest in the litter and is very active. As I said, the vet had no concerns about him. My question is this - should I be concerned about heart issues in Frankie that might not be evident right now? If so, what do I need to do and also, I am getting insurance for him, but will this put up a red flag if the company sees that he goes through more detailed testing for heart issues?

Thanks for any advice.
Susan

I wouldn't worry about it. Just because one pup in the litter has a heart murmur, does not mean the others will have a problem. I have known of litters where one had it, but the rest of the pups were all healthy with no heart problems what so ever. I feel if your boy had a problem, the vet should have heard something already. Things can always show up at a later time, but that's in any litter. I would not let that stop you from getting your baby, and I wouldn't worry about it.

I agree completely with David. Don't worry about it, your baby is healthy! Congratulations, can't wait for pictures!

Thanks for the words of confidence! I am busy puppy proofing lately and will definitely post pics when we get him!
