Hello, my name is Gayle, I rescued a 2 year old Frenchie (girl) from a puppy mill. She has had 2 sets of babies. She is beautiful. The problem is she will not let us near her. She hides under the diningroom table all day. She goes out to potty with my other dog so potty training is no issue. If we get near her she runs. We have had her for 3 months. We cannot hold her, walk her, take her for rides, give her a bath, etc.... HELP

She most likely never had human interaction…. Try to get on her level, sit on floor, not looking at her and entice her with treats. It’s a LONG process but can help. Also try to find a trainer or ask the rescue for some other insight to helping her open up. 3 months is the usual time a rescue settles in and opens up so if she hasn’t then you’ll need a professional to help figure out how to help her..

Best of luck

The other response is fantastic. Try to do something on the floor next to her where you are not at all paying attention to her. If you work at home pull your laptop out and get some work done, Put out a blanket and lay on your belly and watch tv. Show her you are not focused on her. She likely has had interactions with humans but only for forced breeding, insemination, c-section & whelping, then to take your babies away. So all human attention has bad consequences to her.

Hi Gayle. I see you posted this 6 months ago and was curious how things were going. I too rescued a puppy that acted like yours and was afraid of everything…even the wind when it blew. I was also afraid that she was actually mute because she simply wouldn’t bark for months! NOW? She sticks to me like bubblegum on the bottom of my shoe AND won’t shut up! She LOVES to bark, but it’s a “happy bark” if you know what I mean. It took a LONG TIME for her to trust humans again so I’m wondering how your little girl is doing.
