Hi all,

We picked up the bother/sister on Saturday, who are 7 weeks old. Olivia is a tank, no issues eating, pooping, etc. Wilson was the runt, and I have noticed the following. He seems to aspirate water when drinking, and his food is also coming back out his nose and smells really strong / acidic. I am wondering if it is possibly reflux issue, or the fact that he is just not developed fully yet. I will be calling the vet first thing in the AM. Also worried about taking him in with only 1 vaccination series in him. He is alert, active and is eating well, just has things I am not familiar with afterwards - with or without activity. He spews stuff out of his nose and then opens his mouth like a fish out of water.

Will keep all updated, but if anyone has any words of wisdom in the meantime I will probably sleep better.

Anne

Anne, I have no experience with this. Hopefully someone who does will be on here soon.

Awwww, poor little guy! I hope you can find out what's wrong soon and help him out! Wish I were more help!

Doesn't sound right Anne, sometimes that is normal in very small pups who are just learning to eat mush instead of drinking mom's milk, but at 7 weeks food should not be coming out of his nose. Does he burp and then it comes out?

Bringing him to the vet, bring a couple towels-- one for their examining table. Then bring him in a basket and/or carrier so he doesn't touch any surfaces. Please let us know what the vet says....

bullmama. Thanks for the tips on the towels.

It could be like a burp... Just haven't known him long enough to really be familiar yet. It is like vomit oozing out of his nose. I feel so bad for him. I definitely want to have him checked out. He is very active, alert and playful so I am trying not to flip out! He got me really good just after I got out of the shower earlier. Bluck. Will keep you posted.

Is he still eating mush? Or on solid food yet? If not on solid food I would start weaning him ASAP

Sounds like something is going on with his palate, or maybe a cleft palate. Let us know what the vet says

winginit66, Anne, I literally laid awake last night wondering what could be wrong with your little guy! :( I hope it's nothing serious....... It can't be pleasant for him poor baby!

Thinking about you this morning, hope for some good news.

Sorry to be so late with this update all. No appt available today. 9 am tomorrow. When it's going to be about 3 degrees. Ugh. Still the same. Reading I've been doing sounds like a soft palate issue....

Palate was my first thought. Please let us know what the vet says.

Hugs and prayers... Please keep us posted tomorrow after the appointment

Hi all,

Vet's first, and probably worst case scenario to prepare us, was megaesophagus. They've done the xrays with barium and it is NOT that. However, he is not processing the food and it is not going from stomach to intestines. My husband talked to the vet on the call (I should have put it on speaker so I could here) so I don't have all the details. She is calling a specialist for a referral and we go from there.

Please keep us in your prayers - we are far from being out of the woods.
