Cookie is almost 7 years old (her birthday is November 7) and has a recurring pain problem that causes stiffness and difficulty breathing. It all started a few years ago, when she was about 2–3 years old. She had a strange, short episode during which she seemed to be in a lot of pain. She would move around, trying to find a comfortable position.
We investigated several possible causes. She had blood tests, a gluten test, an abdominal ultrasound, and scans of her brain and spine. Nothing unusual was found.
Initially, the episodes were very short, lasting only a few minutes. They occurred for a couple of days, and then she would be completely episode-free for about a year. This pattern repeated almost every year, with the episodes gradually lasting longer. Eventually, the problem stopped for several years.
Unfortunately, it happened again a few days ago. We don't know what to do next and would really appreciate advice on what we should investigate or what type of veterinarian or specialist we should see.
