Red itchy rash from e-collar

Good morning everyone,

Ralphy was neutered and had entropion surgery on February 25. He of course came home with the cone of shame. A few days ago we started noticing a terrible odor coming from the collar, took it off and there is the worst fiery red rash, smelly, raw and the hair is falling out I called the vet yesterday and they said that the cone could come off but to make sure he doesn't lick the neuter site. The neuter looks perfect but he started scratching at his eyes, so the cone went back on and he grumbled and snapped at us because it's obviously very sore. Is there something that we can use that isn't made of hard plastic so that we can clean his rash and let it dry out but put the cone back on when he starts scratching at his eyes or when we aren't home? Also if you know what we can put on the rash to eleviate the itchy,red,soreness?

As for the rash you can put coconut oil on it. If you have some calendula oil at home you can mix it in with the coco oil, as the calendula is anti-septic.

Have you looked into a soft-cone, they are inflatable and have fabric instead of the plastic

When Jax had conjunctivitis, I went to Petco and got him the inflatable cone which, while he still hated it, it was much more comfortable then the plastic cone he was sent home with.

I third the inflatable collar. After doing a bunch of research, I bought one to use when Beezy had to have her surgery last spring. I dropped it off at the vet's with her and had to explain how it worked because they were unfamiliar with it. But after seeing it and seeing how easy it was to use and how much more comfortable it was, this is what they recommend to people whose dogs need them.
