Hello everyone,

So I am struggling with Bella's 'yeastiness' and I am really unsure if what she is dealing with is normal or excessive considering her diet.

This is the extent of what she eats: Primal Raw Complete Beef and/or Chicken, Sardines and an egg alternating day by day, a kefir, blueberry, spinach shake frozen into ice cubes - one a day, a carrot a day, and broccoli every few days, I also give her some pieces of my apple sometimes.

The whole area around her vulva is very yeasty, so much so that if I do not clean it for lets say 3 days, there's small chunks of it that builds up. She has a yeast build up on her tail that keeps coming and going. As soon as I treat it with some diluted apple cider vinegar, the next day it is better but if I don't it flares up again. Her ears are great no yeast just normal waxiness and nothing around her paws. But just this morning I found another area around the corners of her mouth that seem yeasty too.

I feel like I am at such a great place now with her diet, and couldn't imagine having to change it up all over again to avoid natural sugars.

Is anyone dealing with this extent of yeast?? I can't see this as being normal.

Could be the beef and/or chicken causing the yeast. A lot of Frenchies don't tolerate beef or chicken well. My guy was fine on chicken but this last time he ate it he seemed to get yeasty. Another thing could be the fruits and veggies. While it is natural sugar, it's still sugar. You can start by changing proteins and see if that helps.

When we started on the chicken she definitely did get quite a bit more yeasty and I found it odd because we went from Acana Duck and Barlett pear straight to Raw Chicken. I switched her to beef just to mix things up a bout a week ago. Maybe I will give another week on the Beef and see if any improvements arise. Thank you for your reply.

Until you get her gut healthy enough to deal with the yeast overgrowth, you absolutely HAVE to eliminate the sugar as much as possible. Or prepare yourself to deal with yeast issues. It's kind of your choice. If the dog's body can't handle or process the yeast in its system, you can't continue to feed the yeast. Stop with the fruits for now. Primal includes fruits in its mixes, so adding more on your own is just adding fuel to the fire. I'm not saying this to be mean or to sound like a know-it-all, I'm saying this because I have been there. I used to have to wipe Beezy's lady parts every day because they were a rusty red. We were at the vet's office every 6 to 8 weeks getting prescriptive medications and antibiotics for yeast issues. So I know exactly what you're dealing with.

Once you starve the yeast and get the gut functioning properly, you can try adding in fruits and veggies to see if she can handle them. Beezy can apparently now handle small amounts of sugars without issues, but that would not have been the case prior to cutting everything. Kefir, even plain, has a lot of sugar in it. Even plain Greek yogurt has a lot of sugar in it. Bene-bac is a great probiotic that you can use in the meantime while you're doing the starvation process.

I didn't notice any yeast issues with proteins - just intolerane issues, which is a whole other ball of wax. Mainly just with those extra added ingredients that pet food companies feel compelled to add.

Thank you, Kim.

I will definitely cut back on the fruit. I may have to look into a new kefir as well. :)

Anything to get Bella as healthy as possible :)
