Our boy has raised bumps (that are occasionally minimally scabbed). They get more and less pronounced sporadically. Took him that vet and no mites. They are saying it is allergies which I know can be common. He is a rescue and I'm positive, not likely responsibly bred.

They did give us allergy pills but I don't like that as a long term option obviously. I'm figuring I should start with food. We currently feed Taste of the Wild small breed Venison and Garbanzo Beans. I also put Salmon oil on the food.

Any recommendations on even where to start? Here is a pic...sorta hard to get a good pic.

Based on your description - it is probably a staph infection, did your vet mention that at all? If not, you might want to get a second opinion because if I am right, he needs antibiotics to get rid of it and then you have to work on building his immune system.... he may have allergies which we know weaken the immune system leading to the staph infection (vicious circle).

Give your baby a probiotic or a teaspoon of plain yogurt to help with the immune. I would not mess with food just yet. Try giving him a Benedryl 1mg per pound up to 3x a day

Good advice above, plus a few ounces goats milk a day sometimes help. It could be food, try getting a food that doesn't have chicken in it. But most of the times, it's seasonal. :(

Good ideas. I can immediately replace the salmon oil with yogurt even today.

I just had the same reaction with my pup. I narrowed it down to the protein he was on. That was a beef/tripe mix. As soon as I took him off it he started clearing up. Within a week the bumps went away.

All great suggestions above. I would also wash the dog with a shampoo containing chlorhexidine ( I use Curaseb ) to help remove any staphylococcus on the skin. The benadryl is a bit harder to use than a once a day antihistamine like cetirizine, which I give to my dog for convenience. You can try switching to a different protein taste of the wild, eg. the salmon formula, or to a different brand entirely like Fromm pork and peas for example. I think a dog probiotic such as VetriSciences Mega Probiotic would be better than yoghurt.

Last time Titan had those it was staph. 7 day antibiotic cleared it up. But unsure by just 1 pic.

You say you don't like antihistamines as a long term option but they are completely harmless, and the only problem is you may have to rotate between the different ones due to tolerance issues. Of course you should try to find the source of the allergy, and eliminate that, but your dog may have seasonal allergies besides food allergies and may require the antihistamines.
