Two days ago my French bulldog was chewing on a bone and began licking the air feverishly. He then went on to start licking blankets couches etc. He vomited four times and it appeared as though he was unable to breathe. I had to take him to an emergency room at which point they admitted him for severe bloat with gastritis. They believe this was due to a piece of the bone but cannot be 100% sure. He has bitten this bone for months and never had any issues. He is now home and seems to be doing well. He is on a regimen of a broken up diet with smaller portions Gas-X and Pepcid. Has anybody else ever experienced this. It makes me nervous now as every time he licks the air or appears to be breathing heavy I am worried that his recurring. This has never happened to him in the past and he has appeared to have a very strong stomach so this is very concerning. Any pointers or similar stories might put me at ease. Thank you

Bloat is very scary as there are so many things that can trigger it... glad you caught it and he is home and doing well. I have no experience with either of the issues...

Awww so scary. Not much help here, I don't have experience with these issues. Good luck!

We have a great dane and there is a big instance of bloat with that breed too. From what I understand, limiting the excessive play or running after a meal is a big help. They are supposed to have time to digest before they start tearing around again :)

Sorry about your baby, and glad he is OK, I don't have any experience with this as none of ours have never had it.

Omg how scary, glad he is home and doing well. Does he eat really fast? I've heard that slow feed bowls can help.

Wow! That's very scary! I'm glad he's OK. I never had to deal with this issue before and I hope I never have to.
