Bulbous area under jaw *BIG update*

So we are 72 hours post op and overall he’s doing well but today he does have some crusting inside his nostrils. I think he’s also having a difficult time finding comfortable positions as I’m sure that the soft palate is sore , seems like after eating /drinking or liquid meds is when it’s most irritated . He will jolt his head a bit as he swallows or licks his lips but then recovers . Hes very head shy and won’t let me near his nostrils to clean , any advice on what i can do to help him out?? Poor fella..
Sorry for delay… how is he doing? I used a warm soaking wet wash cloth to clean nostrils.. just place one and gently wipe or soak the nose to help loosen and clean

He’s doing really well now , today he seems a lot more like himself and like he’s turned a corner . I’ve tried the wet cloth but he’s incredibly fussy with things touching his face unless it’s just my fingers .. and even then he’s not great. His nostrils seem a lot more open today and less crusty so that’s fortunate . He’s a psycho though has all this pent up energy and is just attacking us trying to play šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Stubborn and resilient little buggers!! Happy to hear he is doing well

Our frenchie did but not the bulldogs,
Yah he’s a still gagging like he was before the surgery and a little bit of regurgitation ,mostly water, but I think that’s to be expected for a little bit after surgery . hopefully in a month or so this problem will be resolved and it won’t be a different issue causing it

That shouldn’t be more than a week or so… if it’s still happening call your vet and get their opinion or set up a follow up exam

I’ve talked to the surgeon and sent videos of his breathing and nose and he doesn’t see anything concerning. He’s not bringing up anything anymore but gaga will still happen .

I brought him back to the surgeon yesterday and they sedated him and took a look at his
Throat. Says everything is healing normally both in the throat and his nose . Think that maybe the congested sounds and still trying to elevate his head when sleeping could be due to his large tongue and the healing incision . I hope that in time everything becomes more normal for him , I just want him to be comfortable . Fingers crossed !

Poor dude and you! I’ll keep praying for his healing and comfort. And for Momma to get some rest to

Thank you I appreciate that so much. I’ve done some reading and this whole need for repositioning his head I read could also be linked to acid reflux. Any thoughts or experience with this?

I picked up omeprazole from the hospital that did his surgery and so far no real difference . He’s been doing this head thing almost every 30 seconds while trying to sleep in his crate night after night and I just can’t for the life of me figure out what is causing it. I’m so stressed out and worried about him. He doesn’t seem in distress but it’s still not somthing normal and has been worse since surgery. I will attach a pet cam video for reference . Any insights?

Your vet see this? That , to me, is sleep apnea, he is having trouble breathing.

If your vet has seen this and says it’s normal… to me, it is not and would find a second opinion

I had brought him in through emergency for this plus he had a reverse sneeze attack and they took all his vitals , oxygen , nothing was abnormal. It’s incredibly frustrating . The gave him a bunch of injections for acid reflux and regurgitation and a sedative. He slept better after that and had a much better day the next day. It’s gotten better , not at that frequency anymore. Have another follow up with the surgeon in about 10 days.

I know.. it’s just so hard to know your baby isn’t at 100% and not know why.. he’s back o the bad sleepin again after another reverse sneeze episode on weds. I’ve talked to my vet who tells me to talk to the surgeon and I just want answers . Just sucks is all .

Where are you located? Also what food/protein are you currently feeding?
