I am looking to transport my French Bulldog from North Carolina to Colorado as soon as possible. From my research, I'm seeing that neither United nor Delta allow shipping of adult french bulldogs. The only seemingly reliable website that transported french bulldogs for competitive prices was Pet Airways but they seem to have gone under. Can anyone provide any recommendations on how I should proceed. Specifically, I want to spend under $500 which I think should be plausible. I'm getting quotes from travel agencies starting at $1200 which just seems absurd.

Any suggestions or help is welcome :-)

Frenchies don't do well traveling in cargo & therefore are not allowed to do so by most airlines because they've experiended many deaths.

I'm pretty sure the only way to fly a frenchie is on your lap.

When I got mine, they didn't let me do cargo so I had to fly to Washington to get her

They should never be flown in the cargo area. Some airlines will let a dog fly in the cabin if they are under 25 pounds and as you know some will allow a puppy to fly in the cabin. They have to be in a pet carrier that fits under the seat. Try Pets On board Transport, I haven't used them, but they do ground transports. I would just drive there with my Frenchie, they travel well in the car, but I don't know your situation so that may not be an option.

There are pet transporters on uship.com but our experience wasn't great, but I think the bulldog was well cared for. Our biggest issue was time frame, they bullshitted constantly about pick up and drop off times instead of being honest.

If you register the dog as an emotional support animal they can fly on your lap for free. Never try to fly any kind of bulldog as cargo.

Thanks everyone for your input. Unfortunately it appears that it's virtually impossible to ship her? I'm about to start my own pet airways if that's the case, there's clearly a market need! I'm getting quoted at $800 minimum which is insane and an amount I cannot afford to pay right now.

I know that there is absolutely a way to figure this out because I've contacted pet travel agencies that have admitted that they can fly her but then charge me $900. If ANYONE knows how they can get around this, your advice would be truly appreciated.

I agree with eeturk. I've heard of people doing this quite a bit before.

You might check out the listing of rescue and transport groups on facebook. I think it's just one page with all the canine transport contacts listed together. Good luck :)

It's how I fly home from school with Hudson. It is very simple. I've never had any kind of issue with it and they get to sit right with you for free. So, one plane ticket for you should definitely be cheaper than what you're being quoted, not to mention you will have a dog that feels way more comfortable than they would being shipped like a piece of luggage.

Hi Eeturk, I was curious, is it as simple as it seems? I don't have to get a psychiatrist's approval or anything? It just almost seems to good to be true.

I did it online through Keystone Psychological Services. You pay through PayPal, take a survey, it's evaluated by a psychiatrist and you receive an email copy of your prescription and then they mail you a hard copy. Some people I know fudged a little on the survey to make it seem like they really needed the dog, but I've got enough going on where I was fine just telling the truth. You can also go through a psychiatrist in person. Many people get them for anxiety, ptsd, etc. We needed it for my apartment complex because they do not allow dogs over 1 year. I can think of 10 or so people that I know who used the same service and no one has ever had an issue.

Eeturk, you are a life saver. I think I'm going to ahead and follow through with this procedure. I'm sorry to bother you so much with so many questions but I was curious about something. My flight going to Colorado will have a connection, thus I will probably need to take her outside to use the bathroom at some point. Have you ever had to deal with this, and what might you recommend in this situation?

:) so happy I could help. You are not bothering me one bit! My flight home is direct with a 2 hour drive after the airport, so we always do a potty break before we get into the car. However, I did find this which could be a helpful resource for you: Pet Friendly Airports | Animal Relief Areas U.S. Airports | Pet Friendly Travel

Otherwise from what I've seen online people will take the dogs out and re-go through security, or try to get them to use a potty pad. Good luck!!!
