It seems that frenchies are natural therapy dogs! I took my Hotchkiss for temperament screening with pets on wheels and he passed with flying colors! We have been to reading night at schools and have gone to local universities to help students with stress relief after exams. It is such a rewarding experience and Hotchkiss is always a big hit! Does anyone else here use your frenchie for therapy work? Here is Hotchkiss at our last stress relief event in Towson.

Good job :) I think most Frenchies have the potential to be therapy dogs because they are so human orientated and are such sweet little characters.
Maple loves people and animals of all kinds, however she is still rather hyper (she is 18 months old but mentally still acts like a 3 months old :P ). Once she settles a little in a few years I may consider it though as I love the idea behind it :)

I used one of my EBs as a therapy dog. He would hop up on a chair and get on the bed and snuggle people in the hospital and the nursing home. Buster is too "busy" and playful right now. His whole world is about playing!

My puppy just turned a year old & we are working towards getting her CGC & becoming a therapy dog. Just finished level 2 of obedience training & she's doing really well. Shes eager to please, learns quickly & seems to love the time we spend working together. Shes a calm, lap dog by nature & so darn cute people love her & she loves them. Looking forward to becoming a certified therapy dog!

that is fantastic.... no way I could do this with Cheli, he, like Alice's Buster -- is to nosy and very curious

Same here. Hudson is a huge snuggle bug with us but new people are just WAY too exciting for him. We joke that he's too socialized because he is just obsessed with meeting new people.

Isabelle is a lunatic with strangers, she goes bananas... So unless she calms down, I don't think she could.

But Titan is SO calm. He's deaf, so he doesn't get excited when people are oohing and ahhing at him... He can't feed off the excited sounds and ruckus...
I do wait to get him into training very soon, and hopefully get him certified. He's so calm with people... More hyper with Isabelle than anything else haha.

Congrats and good job to both of you, that's awesome. :2thumbs:

Wow - Level 2 - that is impressive! I have taken all our other dogs to obedience school, however, I haven't really thought about it with Bambi. I think she was crated a good majority of the day before coming to us. I say her name all of the time, but I don't know if she recognizes it yet. I haven't tried to teach her much of anything because she just seems to have a mind of her own and just "be." Do you use treats? Please don't get me wrong, I am over the moon for her!

P.S. Tallulah is the poster girl for cuteness! She has a very feminine aura and looks dainty. How much does she weigh. What is her nickname?

I do use treats as a reward, she is very food motivated, but I use them sparingly and only to reward her for a job well done. She really does love to please me and is so focused on what I ask her to do. It's been a very rewarding experience for us both.

And thank you, she is a little cutie. She is 16 pounds now at a year old, a little bit of a thing, making her look like a much younger dog -everyone thinks she's a puppy, She is happy and healthy and we love our "mini frenchie", lol. We call her by her full name, Tallulah, or just T. She answers to both.

Oh my goodness, 16 lbs.!!! How sweet is that! She is just an itty bitty! Bambi was around 19 when we got her, went down to 17.8 and I was really worried. We couldn't seem to keep weight on her. Got her up to 21.2 now and I would say she is just slightly over. I may try obedience school, although I am skeptical. She is so sweet but I don't see her as highly trainable. I don't know if she "gets it." Treats will help, though, because like T, she is highly food motivated.

Pierce starts his CGC class next Saturday. We have an incredible trainer, with 30+ years of experience, at the Petco near our house. She adores Pierce and he adores her. It may take two rounds of the program for him to get his CGC, just because of his puppiness. Once we have his CGC, I plan to finish things out with the Therapy dog classes.
