Hello, my name is Kristine and I am a new member.
We have a 7 year old Frenchie. We adopted her 2 years ago. We recently moved from the east side of Florida to the west side of Florida.
Around 4-6 months ago, our baby started having bloody mucus in her poop and now it's very red blood when we wipe her bum. She has had no diarrhea until yesterday. She really has no poop coming out, but still has the urge to go.
When we first got here and established her with a vet, they prescribed her on Royal Canin SO Urinary food for better control of bladder infections and/or stones. (She never had that this whole time until last month). She is on Apoquel and this vet added a thyroid pill 2x daily.
Her blood no matter what we try is getting bad. She doesn't leak it but when she poops it's alot!
I've been getting bloodwork and urinalysis every six months and up until now she has never had a bladder infection. They gave us antibiotics, that were huge, but she still has the infection, so they just did a culture, hopefully results will come this week. Also, we are waiting on results for Addisons disease. Hopefully tomorrow we will have the results for the ultrasound she had on Friday. We did a poop test, sent poop to University of Michigan to check for ecoli, salmonella, etc. She's been tested for parasites, Giardia, bloodwork has been done, they say they do not believe it to be colitis. We also had an X-ray. So far there are no answers.
Has anyone had an issue like this? We love this little girl so much!! I was thinking maybe it's the food? Before this vet, we had her on high end limited ingredient food and had no problems. Recently we are just giving her chicken and rice with some of her wet food mixed with it.
Thank you for reading. Any advice or knowledge is greatly appreciated.

I would definitely go back to the food you had no issues with.. I’d also ask about Tylan powder. My bulldog years ago had this flare up at times and Tylan was the only thing that helped

Hello, she had a massive tumor cell in her colon/intestine. We did the surgery on the 18th. We lost her Jan 2. The surgery didn't take. We were devastated. We had been back and forth to our vet for over 8 months. Because bloodwork was ok and she was ok, the vet never suggested anything more until I did my own research and started asking "can we". When I finally got her an ultrasound appt, it was on a Friday. Lacey went to emergency vet very early Monday morning. She hadn't pooped, wouldn't eat, and was throwing up. Our vet waited until later Monday morning to tell us they found a mass. We took her to University of Florida. Needless to say I will never use that vet again. If we had gotten it sooner, she most likely would have survived. It was so big, they could barely stitch her and had to take most of her colon.
I put this on the board so people who may ask a question about blood in poop....get an ultrasound ASAP. It's not expensive and it could save your dogs life. Forget bloodwork, X-Ray, do ultrasound ASAP.
God Bless my Lacey Lou and she will always be loved.

So so sorry to hear this. No one prepare us for how difficult this can be.

Your baby is ok I'm hoping
So far yes but still has blood in her stool. The vet said it's probably just because she's a puppy and eats small foreign objects but your story has motivated me to go get a second opinion and tests just in case. May the memory of your baby be a blessing. 💕

Thank you. Yes, please continue to find the reason. I highly suggest skip the Xray...they didn't notice it with Lacey and they didn't do with or without contrast. Save money and go straight to the ultrasound. It's about 200-300 but in the long run worth every penny. I'll pray for your young baby. It's so hard not knowing the "why". Also, bloodwork was always normal for Lacey. If it ever is me again, I will demand an ultrasound before all the other tests.
