We are excited to announce that Humphrey is ready to find his forever home! This big ole’ hunk of brindle lovin’ was surrendered to FBRN when his previous owners could no longer afford to care for him.
Humphrey has typical Frenchie skin allergies but is otherwise healthy. He arrived with ear infections that have since been treated, and his ears are looking good due to regular cleaning at the vet’s office. Humphrey is sensitive to being touched on the ears and also doesn’t like having his nails trimmed, so he'll have to have that done professionally, or his family will have to work up to doing that over time with desensitization. His allergies have improved with a grain free diet and weekly baths and this will need to continue in his forever home. Humphrey needs a forever person committed to keeping up with weekly baths and regular trips to the vet (or groomer) for ear cleaning and nail trimming.
Humphrey gets along great with the resident dogs in his foster home. He gets very excited upon the initial meeting of new dogs but calms down quickly. Humphrey shows some resource guarding with toys and also with his food. A patient and experienced forever person willing to work with him on this behavior would be ideal. A family where Humphrey can have other fur-siblings would be great, but potential adopters need to be aware of this behavior and committed to managing it (that means he is fed separately, either in another room or in his crate, and no unsupervised play-time with toys). Humphrey has had no formal obedience training. He is house broken and crate trained.
For the most part, hunky Humphrey is a loafer, but he will let you know when he wants something with his Frenchie “talking.” Humphrey enjoys a nice walk through the neighborhood on the leash but will bark with excitement when he meets new humans or dogs on the walk.
Humphrey loves his Nylabone the best! Soft squeaky toys are nice too, but he tends to destroy them. Humphrey is a rare Frenchie who likes to play fetch. We’d love to see him with a family that will make time for games of fetch in their fenced yard. Humphrey loves being with his people but enjoys playing with the other dogs also.
We think Humphrey would do well in just about any family. Children should be older and more mature due to his resource guarding. No cats or birds since he has not been evaluated with them while in foster care, and per FBRN policy, we have to keep the kitties safe and say no to homes with cats. First time Frenchie owners would be just fine as long as they can keep up with weekly baths to keep Humphrey’s allergies under control. Humphrey would absolutely love to have a home with a fenced yard to romp in! He would do fine with a person that works outside the home, as long as they can (or have a pet sitter/dog walker) give him a mid-day break. Humphrey would be thrilled to be your office companion, but it would need to be an office where there isn’t too much traffic as he does get excited and tends to bark when meeting new people.
