Hi everyone,

I’m a Frenchie owner and wanted to share our experience in case it helps someone in the same boat.

For a long time my dog had the usual “Frenchie problems”:

  • itching and paw licking
  • occasional red patches on the skin
  • soft stool and gas that came and went
We tried a few different “good” foods, but I realised I was mostly just switching brands without really changing the type of diet. What helped in the end was:

  • paying attention to the protein source (not just “grain-free” on the bag)
  • trying a limited‑ingredient food with a different main protein
  • talking with our vet about when a hydrolyzed or novel protein diet actually makes sense
Once I understood the basic diet types (limited ingredient, novel protein, hydrolyzed, sensitive stomach) it was much easier to choose something that matched his symptoms instead of guessing.

I wrote everything I learned into one simple guide about the best dog food for French Bulldogs with allergies, mainly so I’d have it all in one place, but it might be useful if your Frenchie has similar issues:

I’m also curious what worked for other people here:

  • What symptoms did your Frenchie have?
  • Which kind of food made the biggest difference?
Might be helpful for new owners to see a few different real examples
