Hi Everyone i hate to introduce myself to the forum this way but im desperate for any relatable information.
My Frenchie Kane has just turned 4 years old, he started a few months back having focal seizures which have now progressed into full fall on the ground wed himself seizures. his first seizure was a little over 3 weeks ago. he then had another within 2 days. my Wife and I took him to the vet where they prescribed Kappa for a week and Phenobarbital for as long as it takes.
The seizures continued. the longest stretch without one being 48 hours so far. Since Kane has been on the Phenobarbital he sleeps for most of the day, cannot walk very far without falling over and appearing drunk. and doesnt want to eat. he also has difficulty going to the bathroom outside because he cant hold himself up long enough to do so.
He was having tremors and panting/attempting to walk around a lot before i put him on cbd oil a week ago. the tremors and panting have stopped but the drunkenness and seizures are still constantly happening.
One vet said this could be epilepsy or a brain tumor. the other vet (who has his own frenchie) seems to think its epilepsy but we need to give the drugs more time to work.we did blood work last week and checked Kanes Phenobarbital levels and he has a mid level of phenobarbital in his system. the vet said since we we weren't seeing it make a difference in the amount of seizures we should slightly up the dose. with doing this for 3 days kane would not eat and not move. he couldn't move to go to the bathroom so he would just go wherever he was sitting. sometimes we had him outside at the right time. sometimes not.
Im basically looking to see if anyone has used phenobarbital for seizures before and at what point do the seizures slow down and does your dog begin to act like your dog again.
also any other insight and opinions would be helpfull.
