French Bulldog probiotics: when do they actually help, and when are we just delaying a vet visit?

Hi everyone,

I keep seeing probiotics recommended for pretty much every Frenchie stomach issue—gas, soft stool, diarrhea, you name it. I’ve tried a couple for my own Frenchie, and sometimes they seem to help a bit, but it’s hard to tell when they’re actually useful and when I’m just adding another supplement on top of an already sensitive gut.

My dog has the usual Frenchie combo:

  • occasional gas
  • ā€œpuddingā€ poop that comes and goes
  • sensitive stomach with food changes
We’ve done vet checks and cleaned up the diet, but I didn’t want to rely only on marketing claims. I ended up putting together / reading a detailed guide on French Bulldog probiotics: when they truly help gas, soft stool, and sensitive stomachs, and when they might actually delay proper treatment:
https://brachydogcare.com/french-bulldog-probiotics/

It breaks things into:

  • situations where probiotics are a reasonable at‑home trial,
  • times when they should only be one small part of a bigger vet plan, and
  • clear red‑flag signs where you really shouldn’t be reaching for a supplement first.
I’d love to hear from other Frenchie owners:

  • Have probiotics genuinely helped your Frenchie long‑term?
  • Were you dealing with mild issues (gas / soft stool) or more serious gut problems?
  • Did your vet recommend probiotics, or did you start them on your own?
Honest stories would be super helpful—for me and probably a lot of other Frenchie parents who are stuck between ā€œtry another powderā€ and ā€œbook another vet appointment.ā€
